Past History

Childhood: Haruka was an only child until her brother, Daiki, was born. During those five years she was her parents’ entire world. When she was no longer an only child, she became very jealous of the attention her parents gave the baby boy. It was only when the infant smiled at her and grasped her finger that she vowed to protect him from all harm. As the children grew older they became the best of playmates. One day her brother was being bullied by some older kids and when he was at the verge of tears she intervened and beat the older kids up. Their childhood was spent going to school, zoos, museums, plays, parties, and other things that rich kids usually are forced to attend. When Daiki was fourteen he became severely ill and died. Although she knows there was nothing she could have done to prevent her brother’s death, Haruka still feels guilt. In Ouran she stayed distant from the other students, true to the definition of her given name, earning the nickname of Karakara-chan (Cubone in English) from some of the more nerdy students. The nickname stuck, and more people called her by the Pokemon name rather than her own name. Her parents kept trying to get her to do more things. Ever since Daiki’s death she didn’t go out as often and she preferred to lock herself in her bedroom and draw pictures. Finally, in her third year at Ouran High School, Haruka decided to join a club just for the heck of it. She asked around and, after getting over the initial shock of Haruka actually talking to someone, the students all agreed that the Host Club was the most famous in the school. The first thought that the girl had upon entering the club was something along the lines of being assaulted by flowers.
